Papua New Guinea always had a lot of people coming over trying to exploit its natural riches. You name it and PNG’s got it. Unfortunately like history has seen so often people just take what they want and don’t mind the locals. In fact they are seen as nuisances. This article is from a Dutch newspaper.
The article does not mention that papua-new-guinean politicians made this happen by inviting them in. A certain amount of money and privileges in the right pockets even exclude these foreign companies from paying taxes. Guess which country benefits from the profits? Guess where the money goes these chinese workmen earn? Guess how much pollution is exuded from a nickel mine? Etc, etc, etc…

And to add salt to the wound.The Governor’s position was contested last week(in court) and was won-back to the poll booths for the residents of Madang town.
This time we’ll quash this half-wits deluded fantasies!!
You’re talking about this?
Amet out!
THE court of disputed returns in Madang yesterday declared the election of Governor Sir Arnold Amet void.
The long awaited decision of the election petition filed by petitioner Peter Yama, for which Sir Arnold was the third respondent, was handed down by presiding judge Justice Bernard Sakora before a packed courtroom yesterday.
Ben Lomai, counsel for Mr Yama and Phillip Ame and Dr John Nonggor representing the other two respondents in the petition — Kila Ralai the provincial returning officer and the Electoral Commission, were also present at the ruling.
There were eight grounds which were cited in the petition filed by Mr Yama on last September 10. Grounds one, two, three and four were in relation to undue influence of statements made, not only by Sir Arnold but his supporters including the Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare.
Grounds seven and eight were in relation to errors and omissions on the part of the Electoral Commission to allow Sir Arnold to win the election and deprive Mr Yama of count results from six ballot boxes at Kinim station on Karkar Island which were allegedly tampered with and subsequently 10,000 ballot papers belonging to Mr Yama were destroyed and replaced by officials for Sir Arnold.
Other allegations the court looked at related to ballot papers reportedly dumped at the Meiro dump outside Madang town. Grounds five and six were in relation to allegations of bribery and were withdrawn by Mr Yama during the trial. Justice Sakora said the court made orders that the petition had succeeded on grounds one to four that there was undue influence in the statements that were made at four locations by Sir Arnold, one of his campaign co-ordinators Nick Mare and Sir Michael. The petition had failed on the remaining allegations tried under grounds seven and eight because the evidence fell short of standards required.
The court ruled; l THE declaration for the reasons given in respect of grounds one to four that the election of the respondent and successful candidate Sir Arnold be void pursuant to Section 215 (1) and(3)(a) of the Organic Law on National and Local Level Government Elections;
l Direct the Registrar to report the findings and orders of the court to the Speaker of the National Parliament and the Electoral Commission;
l ALL parties pay their own costs of the petition hearing, inclusive of costs of the competency hearing;
There was shouting and jubilant chanting by Mr Yama’s supporters outside the heavily guarded court house soon after the decision was handed down.
Sir Arnold said he accepted the decision. He was sad for the people of Madang that after over a year the attempt to try to serve them had been stalled. He will decide whether to re-contest and “let the people make their judgment again’’.
