My sister Maaike lives in Christchurch New Zeeland. She and her boyfriend got hit by an earthquake of 7.4 on the Richter scale. Luckily there was only some debris damage from falling bricks from the chimneys. No bodily harm.

Since that one we have had more than a 100 quakes. Several between 5-6. That is probably one of the hardest things: you are constantly aware there might be another one coming any time soon. You cannot sleep, and when you do, you get woken up by the ‘shakes’
The most scary thing is the ‘hissing’ sounds the ground makes: just before of after a quake…very unnerving.
But, we are lucky. Only damage to the house and car, some plumbing and water issues, but besides that: nothing.
Respect for mother nature, that is all I can say!
