After summer recess
So Inge and I resumed our training. Even when both of us could pull off some nice tricks together, we still need mileage. And after a year worth of training this is slowly building up.

Blocked neck
Some weeks ago I saw Circa in Tiel. Merijn invited me to come and see this show of Australian acrobats. They were awesome. They had dance incorporated into their show, but also mimicry. Almost all their acrobatic tricks are of the level I am able to do as well. One trick in particular I thought I could do as well.
Standing on the head.
Only with one leg. Maartje was the one performing the trick. After the third time I felt a spasm in my neck. A muscle spasm I thought. It’s going to be ok in a few days I thought. Apparently not. I actually messed up the fifth vertebrae in my neck. This has been leading to a gradual dysfunction of my right scapula (if you want to know why this is you need to know a little about neurology). Because my scapula isn’t moving like it should, my tendons around my right shoulder joint are strained and painful. Luckily I have colleagues helping me. I’ll be right as rain in no time…I hope…
First outside acrobatic session
Ow yeah! Inge (colleague) and I did our first acrobatic training of this year outside. Behind our center there there are the old Vitesse fields. Ideal for a lunch acrobatic session…

Sport

I’ve been picking up sport the last few months. De relaxation that comes from it feels great and at the same time it changes my body. I feel fit and strong, and must have lost 5 kg plus.
Hand to hand acrobatics, as you might have guessed from former posts is my most important past time in sport. Twice a week is a bare minimum. This does not include the acrobatic weekend where I can can spend somewhere between 8 to 12 hours during two days. Acrobatics gives me the opportunity to be creative, tone up my body and work together with another person in order to achieve higher goals. It balances the body and the mind.
I picked up road cycling mainly because Merijn borrowed and later gave me his bike. It was surprised to see how much I liked it. Cycling challenges the body in a completely different way I was used to up until now. It is a high energy burner, low impact to the body and really nice to do with other people. During autumn it’s dangerous due to the small tires and the slippery leaves. When the leaves have gone and it’s not too cold I will start again on a regular basis.
Running I have done before together with two housemates. I actually ran the Seven hill run in Nijmegen in 1 hour and 14 minutes. Fun thing about that was that I ran it barefooted. After 2004 I did not run for the longest of times. I picked it up again, because Heleen is a pretty good runner and it’s nice to sport together. It’s a joy to see the light footed technique she uses to finish even a marathon.
The last two weeks I have been running this 9km round two or three times a week.
Running gets me into a trance-like state comparable to meditation. Daily stuff goes into my subconscious, gets sorted out and relaxes. It’s also a good way to keep fit and a fat burner.
In conclusion; I sport to keep fit, mentally balanced, be creative, have strong social connection with other people.
A fine day in Maastricht
There was supposed to be a acrobatics day in Maastricht. So Maartje and I drove down to Maastricht for a day of nice physical exertion. When we drove up to place where it was supposed to be we found out nobody was there. Due to a shortage of teachers it had been canceled. So instead of driving back we had a beautiful acro day of our own in the city park of Maastricht.
The weather was really nice and the beers afterward on the Vrijthof were not bad either.

Dutch International Acrobatics Festival 2010
I’m wrecked. Three days of fun with friends in Haarlem at the Dutch International Acrobatics Festival 2010. Maartje and I did two workshops with the series of transitions we made before.
We practiced with friends and slept in tents.
