Leaving the brons and Götterfunken

Nynke left our living community to live by herself and Johanka is going to leave us. So we decided to take them to Utrecht to a performance of Götterfunken and some food later on.

The trip was worth while making, because Nynke made us perform a position used in a Viagra advertisement.

Sorry to all you people going from Nijmegen to Utrecht yesterday afternoon. Just remember we had fun.

The illustrator of the group Götterfunken (Geert) lives in our community. As you can see on the picture I made Geert projects stills on a screen. He showed pictures, a movie clip on his camera and a lot of drawings.

It’s a tip to go and see them. The mix of contemporary music together with Geert’s drawings is really nice.

And afterwards the queens were taken to the ACU vegan and squatters restaurant in Utrecht. Awesome food and nice atmosphere.

The brothers from Limburg

Coming weekend I’m going to be an acrobat in The Brothers of Limburg festival (Dutch) in Nijmegen. Nijmegen tries to be as authentic as possible during these two days. We are talking about the era around 1300-1400 AC.
We are going to play a part in the story of Mariken van Nieumeghen. We are in a short play in which we tease her for being in the big city.

This is my costume.

Sweat lodge ceremony

Yesterday I attended a sweat lodge ceremony. First we had to chop wood to heat the stones. After the stones had been put on the stack of woods in a ceremonial way the stack was set ablaze.

After two hours the stones were hot and we could start sweating and chanting. We had four sittings and let me tell you it was hot. Afterwards I was completely drained.

Grote Broek

Last Saturday I went with three friends of mine to the Grote Broek (big pants). It is a place in the middle of town. In 1986 it started when some lefties broke into the place and started squatting it. Their ideas were that an ideal world should not contain hierarchical society and that everybody should be their own boss. It became a place of free thinkers. Ow yeah, they also dress differently and a lot of them are vegans
Squatting in this society isn’t something you want to condone; so a solution was found. Local authorities decided to sell the place to a cooperation. This cooperation would in turn rent it to Grote Broek. The second of May was the grand opening (Dutch). A nice vibe round there with nice food and afterwards a dance party at the Onderbroek (underpants), which is a basement underneath the Grote Broek.

The show

I just had a most awesome experience on stage.

Hanna (whom you know from the little movie here) made a perfect producer. She created a show about Orpheus and Eurydice with dancers, musicians, and us two as acrobats. I had to become a shadow in the realm of Hades. I think that part at least worked.

Unfortunately during the show, although I wasn’t as nervous as with djembee shows I had before, I almost dropped her. I told her parent later on that it was a win-win situation. At least she would have had a physio to guide her in the rehabilitation process. The entire show was taped with three camera’s. I hope somebody is going make it look like it is supposed to go like that.

The grey university

Last weekend (yeah, I did not find time to post sooner) I went hiking with my parents. My parents have a group of friends they tend to spend time with. Not surprisingly they are all respectably grey. Being the Benjamin of this group last Sunday was really nice. These people know so much about life and nature. And when being without story, stories are made up with great allure. This venerable group meets every last Sunday of the month to walk and one of them acts as a guide. The guide makes sure there is a route and a story.

Last Sunday afternoon was an exception as there was an external guide. The subject of the hike was Eugene Dubois. You might recognize him as the person who found the missing link (I never heard of him). He proved that Darwin was right with his evolution theory. Apparently he was übercool for that fact and it is really weird we Dutch don’t know him. Maybe because he was from Limburg or that he was without religion in a catholic region.

He owned an estate in Haelen (Netherlands) and experimented with a lot of things. The following picture is a bat tower that was supposed to attract bats who could keep his marshes free of mosquito’s.
