Gate keepers

During the weekends I go around to my other friends. That means ‘][‘ and his family have some time to them selves. This weekend I went to Merijn. Merijn already lives at the same community I going to and as luck would have it they were having a day of doing odd jobs around the houses and the huge garden they have. I joined in and got to know everybody.

The 30th of March I was going to have my gate keepers conversation. Basically it means that two people sit down with you to discuss how the community works and what is expected of you. They also check to see if you are made of the right material. Since I was there Saturday it was decided to do the conversation right away. After half an hour it was decided that I was accepted into the community.

A new house

I got a text today:

Het lijkt ons erg leuk als je bij ons komt wonen

We would love for you to come live with us

I’m going to live at the Woonvereniging Autonome Republiek de Brons in Nijmegen (living community Autonomic Republic the Brons). This living community has five houses close to each other. Living there is nice with it’s huge backgarden. Each year there are six chores days. During these days the garden and the exterior of the houses is fixed/improved. In these five houses there are 24 occupants mostly working, some of them studying.

Let’s see how this living together is going to work for me. I’ve had proper experience in PNG.

Important stuff

I’ve been busy lately and after a late night last Friday I had to pay the price. So now I’m sniffling a little with a head that feels heavy. The weekend was great though, because I had my first taste of acrobatics again.

If you are unable to use one side of your body it’s sometimes nice to do stuff on your knees. Especially if it’s acrobatics.

Due to my temporary mobility problem I decided to spend time re-doing the PHYSIQUE website. The new site is online and can be viewed on http://www.physique.nl/. The old site looked like this.

Finally and most importantly I decided that living all alone in the south of Nijmegen doesn’t work for me. Today I was invited to have dinner with people that wanted to see if I could join their house. It’s a group of people owning five houses and everybody who joins becomes a owner. I’d be living together with 4 other people and having a communal living room, kitchen, a shower and a bedroom by myself of about 20m2. There is a big garden. It would be nice to live close to the center without having the stress of buying a house and having the benefit of other people around me. Let’s see if I’m accepted.

It would seem like I’m settling in.

I’m enjoying my apartment. A lot of work has been done over the last two months. People have been coming and going to get me new windows. The advantages of double glazing are impressive. Painting has been done. I still find it hard to ask people over thinking it too far away or expecting to be bored when being here. I have to get over that though.
Buying a house in future, if I can get a decent mortgage, is still something I’m considering. With this view though I’m happy.

Work seems to be going well. After I found out why I’m always so jittery in the Netherlands. I finishing a coordinator course that will give me an opportunity to, well coordinate care. I’m already doing some tasks so I can get the hang of it. Very satisfying I have to say. It might be another year, before I become the director of OCA though.

Sport kicks ass. Can’t stop talking about acrobatics. But I will.

LIFE IS GREAT!

Update

I made a video update for you in Dutch, Pidgin, English and German. Unfortunately the size of the file was too big. So I’ll do it in English and I’ll type it.

The painting of the walls is done. Tomorrow laminate, Monday carpet and next weekend the big move.

My home

I’ve got the apartment in the middle on the left hand side when you look at the picture of the entrance.

In the photo gallery you’ll see:
- the mail from the former tenant (not paying his bills properly by the looks of it)
- entrance and the outside view
- the rooms
- the gift I got for renting the place
- my ridiculously huge garage with workplace

A lot of work needs to be done. Painting and putting in new floors will be the most arduous.
